Narendra Modi será o novo premiê da Índia
A Índia será pela primeira vez governada por alguém nascido depois da independência do país em 1947, disse nesta sexta-feira (16) Narendra Modi, líder do partido nacionalista hinduísta Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), vencedor das eleições gerais indianas.
Em suas primeiras declarações em público perante seus eleitores em Vododara, o distrito pelo qual se apresentava no estado de Gujarat, Modi, de 63 anos, lembrou que “pela primeira vez, a Índia estará dirigida por gente nascida em uma Índia independente”.

Resultados parciais das eleições gerais na Índia divulgados nesta sexta-feira indicam que o partido nacionalista hindu BJP, do candidato Narendra Modi, sairá vitorioso com uma ampla margem de diferença sobre seus rivais. Os dados definitivos da maior eleição do mundo só devem sair no final do dia, mas o Partido do Congresso já admitiu derrota. A apuração parcial indica que o BJP obterá a maior vitória de qualquer partido político dos últimos 30 anos. Caso confirmado, o resultado é um duro golpe no Partido do Congresso, da família Gandhi e do atual premiê Manmohan Singh.
Eficiência e nacionalismo
Governador do Estado de Gujarat desde 2001, Modi é visto como um líder firme e pró-ativo, com agenda desenvolvimentista e fortemente nacionalista. Sua principal promessa de campanha foi reanimar a economia indiana. Em seu tempo à frente de Gujarat, a região tornou-se uma potência econômica. Excelente orador, ele é frequentemente chamado de estrela mais brilhante do BJP, e seus membros já o apoiavam para primeiro-ministro muito antes de seu partido ter superado profundas divergências internas em torno do seu nome.
