It may have taken 55 minutes, to decide it, but for the packed stadium in Brazil, it was a treat to experience as host-country favourites Larissa Franca/Talita Antunes came from behind and held off the valiant effort by Italy’s Marta Menegatti/Viktoria Orsi Toth Sunday to capture the gold medal during the closing day of the double-gender US$800,000 FIVB São Paulo Grand Slam.

Dutchmen Nummerdor and Varenhorst stop Brazilian icons for men’s gold medal at FIVB São Paulo Grand Slam 
News from the FIVB 

São Paulo, Brazil, September 28, 2014. When 72 matches were all said and done, the last team standing Sunday was Reinder Nummerdor/Christiaan Varenhorst from the Netherlands as they upset home-country icons in Brazil’s Ricardo Santos/Emanuel Rego to claim the men’s gold medal at the double-gender US$800,000 FIVB São Paulo Grand Slam.

10 out of 10, all European teams through to second round at Women’s World Champs 
News from the FIVB 

Rome, Italy, September 28, 2014. On Sunday Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Belgium claimed the last four second round tickets at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Italy 2014. Host Italy, Brazil, USA and China finished on top of their pools with only USA going into the second round on full points.

CEV President shares feelings after meeting Pope Francis

Rome, Italy, September 27, 2014. On Wednesday a milestone was added to the history of Volleyball. CEV President André Meyer – who is also the President of the Control Committee currently supervising the organisation of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Italy 2014 – had the opportunity to meet with Pope Francis at the end of the weekly papal audience held on St. Peter’s Square.

2014 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship – Baku Masters

Baku, Azerbaijan, September 13, 2014. CEV President André Meyer is paying a visit to Baku as Azerbaijan’s capital is currently hosting the Baku Masters, fifth and last stop of this year’s CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship. This is the first major international Beach Volleyball competition organised in the vibrant capital of Azerbaijan and a perfect rehearsal for the Beach Volleyball event of next year’s European Games.
